MERITO Outreach Programs
The MERITO plan was developed in collaboration and partnership with agencies and organizations serving Hispanics (Latinos) in an effort to provide expanded bilingual outreach and education about marine and coastal environments and their conservation to youth, teachers, adults and families. The three main program goals of MERITO are to:
1. Collaborate with natural resource management agencies to increase visitation to coastal partner sites by Hispanic youth and families through
Site-Based Ocean Outreach.
2. Collaborate with K-12 schools, adult schools and community groups to build upon and foster new Community-Based Ocean Outreach for Hispanic youth, adults and migrant families.
3. Collaborate with minority-serving institutions to develop and provide Professional Development Opportunities for Hispanic-serving teachers and College Internships for Hispanic undergraduate and graduate level students.
