Sanctuary Currents Symposium
Scientific experts discuss the latest sanctuary research and monitoring findings at this annual event.

Ecosystem Observations
An annual report for the sanctuary featuring current research written by scientific experts.

LiMPETS (Long-term Monitoring Program & Experiential Training for Students)
A program for volunteer groups to monitor the rocky intertidal, sandy shore and offshore areas of five west coast National Marine Sanctuaries.

Sanctuary Integrated Monitoring Network  (SIMoN)
An integrated program to identify and understand ecosystem changes in the sanctuary. Check out the interactive map feature displaying monitoring data in the form of high-end geographic information systems (GIS).

Beach COMBERS
A beach monitoring study, utilizing volunteers to sample selected sections of beach for stranded marine birds and mammals.

The Monterey Bay Sanctuary Citizen Watershed Monitoring Network
A consortium of approximately 20 volunteer citizen groups who monitor the health of watersheds flowing into sanctuary.

Snapshot Day
An annual water quality monitoring event designed to increase information and public awareness about water quality issues affecting sanctuary watersheds.

Urban Watch
Volunteers collect urban runoff water samples during the dry weather months from selected storm drains and analyze for contaminants.

First Flush
An annual volunteer monitoring event occurring during the first major storm of the season to characterize “first flush” storm water runoff flowing into the sanctuary.

B-WET (Bay Watershed Education and Training Program)
A grant program to provide funding and support for environmental education for students, teachers, and communities throughout the Monterey Bay watershed.

The Great Annual Fish Count
Volunteer divers and snorkelers are trained to identify and document fish diversity and population trends in marine sanctuaries.

Summary of Species and Habitats (Site Characterization)

A summary of existing information about the sanctuary’s natural resources as well as a bibliographic database of peer-reviewed and "gray" literature pertinent to the sanctuary.
