A consortium of approximately 20 volunteer citizen groups who monitor the health
of watersheds flowing into sanctuary.
Snapshot
Day
An annual water quality monitoring event designed to increase information
and public awareness about water quality issues affecting sanctuary watersheds.
Urban Watch
Volunteers collect urban runoff water samples during the dry weather
months from selected storm drains and analyze for contaminants.
First Flush
An annual volunteer monitoring event occurring during the first major
storm of the season to characterize “first flush” storm water
runoff flowing into the sanctuary.
B-WET (Bay Watershed Education
and Training Program)
A grant program to provide funding and support for environmental education
for students, teachers, and communities throughout the Monterey Bay watershed.
The Great Annual Fish
Count
Volunteer divers and snorkelers are trained to identify and document fish diversity
and population trends in marine sanctuaries.
Summary of Species and Habitats (Site Characterization)
A summary of existing information about the sanctuary’s natural resources
as well as a bibliographic database of peer-reviewed and "gray" literature
pertinent to the sanctuary.
