Bay Net
Started in 1995, Bay Net volunteers have stationed themselves along the recreation trails in Monterey and Pacific Grove, at the Lighthouse in Santa Cruz, in the north harbor at Moss Landing and even along Highway 1 in Big Sur. Bay Net Volunteer Naturalists engage the public by introducing the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary and local wildlife that can be easily seen from shore with binoculars and spotting scopes such as cormorants, pelicans, guillemots, dolphins, sea otters, harbor seals and an occasional whale. These dedicated volunteers wearing blue jackets work to promote understanding and appreciation of marine sanctuary resources while fostering stewardship of the sanctuary and oceans worldwide.
