Welcome and Introductions (David Ebert)
Dave Ebert, BTAP Chair gave welcoming comments. Individual introductions commenced.
Dave gave an introduction to new members about the BTAP and its relationship to the Sanctuary Advisory Council (SAC), the SAC’s role, and its other three related working groups (Sanctuary Education Panel, Research Activity Panel, and Conservation Working Group), the SAC meeting schedule and listserv access.

October SAC Meeting Update (David Ebert)
David gave a summary of the October SAC meeting proceedings, including the BTAP recommendation presentation that was offered to the SAC. For more information, please check the MBNMS web page: http://montereybay.nos.noaa.gov/intro/advisory/sac_agendas/

MBNMS Joint Management Plan Review (JMPR) update: Scoping Meeting Schedule (K.Grimmer/D.Ebert)
Karen and David gave a brief overview of the process for the Joint MPR. Karen handed out the scoping meeting schedule & the State of the Sanctuary Reports. She reviewed the timeline for the management plan review. For more information please contact Sean Morton, sean.morton@noaa.gov, http://sanctuaries.noaa.gov/jointplan/

Steve Scheiblauer offered a brief summary on the original Sanctuary designation and the consensus-building that occurred with many of the local industries (fishing, agriculture).
Some BTAP members offered suggestions on how to advertise the JMPR via newsletters, etc.

David E. gave an overview on the final BTAP recommendations/issues of concern that were given to the SAC as well as the other three working group recommendations (Sanctuary Education Panel, Research Activity Panel, Conservation Working Group).

Dredging Presentation (Deirdre Hall)

Deirdre gave a power point presentation on MBNMS Dredging policies. She covered information such as who the permitting agencies are that regulate dredge material disposal, where are the sites, how does the permitting process work, what are the criteria for permitting, and what are the current dredging techniques. Questions and discussion occurred throughout the presentation.

BTAP Role and Future Directions (David Ebert)
David discussed his interest in broadening the membership for the BTAP both locally in Santa Cruz and Monterey, and to the northern and southern regions of the Sanctuary such as Half Moon Bay and Cambria. We discussed other ideas such as use of the listservs for communication and dialogue, networking opportunities, receiving presentations from staff and experts, and working on potential collaborative projects that advertise businesses such as the 50 Ways to get your Feet Wet brochure, and the Sanctuary Interpretive Trail
.
Sanctuary Reflections Awards (Karen Grimmer)
Karen asked the BTAP for suggestions on nominations for the Sanctuary Currents award for Business. David requested input via email, and a list of names will be generated & nomination paragraphs will be requested by December 14. Announcements:
SAC Recruitment for four seats underway: Conservation, Tourism, Diving & Education
The Alliance is circulating a petition for the management plan review process.
