Draft Environmental Impact Report/Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIR/EIS) for the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute's (MBARI) Monterey Accelerated Research System (MARS) Cabled Observatory
MBARI has applied for a permit from the sanctuary program to install on the seafloor a science node and 31.7 miles of submarine cable that would provide power and high-bandwidth communications to scientific instruments sites within the sanctuary. The Draft EIR/EIS analyzes the potential impacts of the project and proposed mitigation measures.
The California State Lands Commission and Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary will be holding two public hearings on April 7, 2005 to receive comments on a Draft Environmental Impact Report/Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIR/EIS) for the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute's (MBARI) Monterey Accelerated Research System (MARS) Cabled Observatory.
Two public hearings will be held on April 7th, one at 4:00 p.m. and one at
6:30 p.m. at the Moss Landing Marine Laboratory, 8272 Moss Landing Road,
Moss Landing, CA. The public is invited to provide comments on the proposed
project and the adequacy of the analysis. Written comments may also be submitted
until April 26, 2005 to Deirdre Hall, Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary,
99 Pacific Street, Bldg. 455A, Monterey, CA 93940 by April 26, 2005. For more information,
