The Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary (MBNMS) is one of the main sponsors of the BLUE Ocean Film Festival, a global ocean films and conservation event focused on leveraging the power of film to help protect the oceans and the life within. This celebration of award-wining ocean films, ocean photography exhibits, ocean seminars, educational hands-on exhibits and lively social events will take place at numerous venues in Monterey from August 23 to 29, 2010.

The opening event, the Message in a Buoy Educational Initiative, held in conjunction with NOAA's Adopt a Drifter Program, will take place on Monday, August 23. Other events that the MBNMS will be supporting include "In the Field Out to Sea: Topside Mentoring," a workshop conducted aboard the R/V Fulmar, the R/V Fulmar will also provide on-the-water support as Bruckner Chase swims from Santa Cruz to Monterey on August 24th, and the MBNMS is hosting a regional video competition for students that educate the public about the ocean and the importance of ocean conservation.

The Festival venues include the Portola Plaza Hotel & Conference Center (Festival Headquarters), Golden State Theatre, Osio Theatre, IMAX Theatre, Maritime Museum and Lighthouse Cinema (in Pacific Grove). These are identified on the maps as well as alternative transportation options. For a static, printable map of the venues, click here, for a Google map, click here.
