MBNMS often uses a collaborative approach to identifying and resolving resource management issues, involving a wide array of partners in developing and carrying out plans to protect Sanctuary resources. A variety of multistakeholder committees advise MBNMS management on complex resource issues, most importantly, the Sanctuary Advisory Council and its subcommittees. In addition, issue-specific committees may guide planning and implementation of targeted issues, such as the Water Quality Protection Program Committee and the Vessel Traffic Workgroup. Major program-wide planning efforts such as MBNMS Management Plan review also involve extensive opportunities for public input in identifying and resolving resource management issues. These partnerships and public involvement are an essential ingredient of the Sanctuarys success. |
