National Marine Sanctuary Specific Requirements for Advisory Council Representatives
Spring 2011 Recruitment
Agriculture
- Familiarity with the agricultural industry in communities near the Sanctuary;
- Understanding the links between agriculture, Sanctuary resources and human activities;
- Ability to effectively communicate with representatives from the agricultural industry in the Sanctuary region; and
- Experience, ability, and availability to conduct outreach within the agricultural community consistent with the goals of the Sanctuary and the mission of the Sanctuary Advisory Council.
Diving:
- Familiarity and affiliation with the diving industry in communities near the Sanctuary;
- Understanding of the links between diving, Sanctuary resources, and human activities;
- Ability and willingness to communicate effectively with representatives from the diving industry in the Sanctuary region; and
- Experience, ability, and availability to conduct outreach within the diving community consistent with the goals of the Sanctuary and the mission of the Sanctuary Advisory Council.
Education:
- Affiliation with education institutions or organizations active in the Sanctuary region;
- Ability to effectively communicate with multiple institutions, agencies, and educators;
- Direct experience with marine education programs;
- Experience, ability, and availability to conduct outreach within the education community consistent with the goals of the Sanctuary and the mission of the Sanctuary Advisory Council; and
- Commitment and availability of time to chair the Sanctuary Advisory Council’s Sanctuary Education Panel (SEP) which meets six times per year.
Research:
- Affiliation with a research institution within the Sanctuary region;
- Familiarity with research issues and research projects within the Sanctuary region;
- Experience, ability, and availability to conduct outreach within the research community consistent with the goals of the Sanctuary and the mission of the Sanctuary Advisory Council;
- Ability to communicate effectively with the broader research community in the Sanctuary region; and
- Commitment and availability of time to chair and assure the continued operation of the Sanctuary Advisory Council’s Research Activity Panel (RAP), which meets monthly.
Tourism:
- Familiarity and affiliation with the tourism industry in communities near the Sanctuary;
- Understanding of the links between tourism, Sanctuary resources, and human activities;
- Ability and willingness to communicate effectively with representatives from the tourism industry in the Sanctuary region; and
- Commitment and availability of time to co-chair (with the business/industry representative) the Sanctuary Advisory Council’s Business and Tourism Activity Panel (BTAP) which meets six times per year.
