R/V FULMAR operations, ship time allocation, RFPs (Karen Grimmer)

  • "Mission Statement: The R/V FULMAR supports collaborative research, education and resource protection projects in the Central and Northern California National Marine Sanctuaries to inform and implement sanctuary management"
  • 25 days to allocate for RFPs
  • R/V FULMAR page will soon be available on SIMoN website
  • RFP for 2008 will come out in early November 2007

  • Ed Ricketts Memorial Award and Lecture: Gary Griggs (UCSC)
  • Sanctuary Reflections Science/Research Award: Rick Starr (CA Sea Grant)

  • Research Posters still being accepted until January 26th

SAC meeting update: JMPR (Chris Harrold)

  • See SAC summary for details where SAC was in consensus and not; some plans addressed by RAP: Davidson Seamount consensus on inclusion in MBNMS; non-consensus (NMSA vs PFMC regulations)
  • Marine Protected Areas: no consensus
  • Trawling: some consensus; non-consensus (NMSA vs PFMC regulations)

  • Primary:
    • Chris Harrold volunteered to continue as primary
    • Charlie Paull will write recommendation letter and distribute to RAP for comment
  • Alternate:
    • Burton will poll RAP via email for volunteer
    • Harrold/DeVogelaere will contact Storlazzi to apply
    • Ellen Faurot-Daniels nominated Mary Yoklavich; Mary will consider
    • RAP to write letter of support for recommended alternate
