The following
criteria (as drawn from National Criteria while considering local concerns)
shall be used by the MBNMS Superintendent in determining whether or
not an applicant for MBNMS Community Sponsorship shall be accepted.
Applicants accepted for the MBNMS Community Sponsorship program shall:
- Have
a history of demonstrating support for continued growth of the Sanctuary
program;
- Agree
to, and be capable of, helping the MBNMS Program to educate the general
public about the MBNMS and the benefits of marine science, education
and conservation;
- Not
be involved in an activity that has a history of being damaging to,
or incompatible with living marine resources, or their physical environment;
- Not
be involved in a program, project or activity that is incompatible
with the goals and objectives of the MBNMS or the National Marine
Sanctuary Program;
- Not
be involved in litigation or legal action with any agency or branch
of the Federal government;
- Not
be immediately involved in a project that has a permit pending before
the program for exception to an MBNMS regulation;
- Not
be immediately involved in soliciting funding from the Sanctuary program
for any contracts, grants or other awards; and,
- Not
be involved in activities that could result in a conflict of interest,
or give an appearance of impropriety.
