Check Out The Daily Cruise Log

From May 9th to 13th, 2017, ACCESS Cruises were conducted in Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary for 5 days of vessel surveys focused on data collection for whale and seabird distribution as well as crab pot densities.

ACCESS (Applied California Current Ecosystem Studies) is a partnership that supports marine wildlife conservation and healthy marine ecosystems in northern and central California, by conducting ocean research to inform resource managers, policy makers and conservation partners.

The cruise was led by Jaime Jahncke with Point Blue Conservation Science, and Karen Grimmer with Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. The science team included Kirsten Lindquist, Cotton Rockwood, Ryan Berger, Ryan Hartnett and Meredith Elliot as well as passengers from the Dungeness crab working group including fishermen John Mellor, Andrea Treece with Earth Justice and Geoff Shester with Oceana.
