  Montara Lighthouse Hostel

In 1928, the small New England-style lighthouse was constructed to replace the previous steam whistle and oil lamp. When the lighthouse became fully automated and its crew assigned elsewhere, the buildings fell into disrepair. Then in July 1980, the station took on new life as a youth hostel for the "young of heart of all ages." The Montara Lighthouse Hostel operates out of the historic buildings next to the lighthouse. Facilities include 30 beds, a kitchen, volleyball court, an outdoor hot tub, and bicycle rentals.

For more information or hostel reservations call (415) 728-7177 or check the Montara Lighthouse Hostel website.
