During the
Prohibition of the 1930's, Pleasure Point became the main entry point
of smugglers and rum runners. A number of speakeasies and houses of ill
repute, spawned by the rum running trade, soon became established and
at that time the area became known as Pleasure Point.
Today, Pleasure
Point is very much a part of the Santa Cruz surfing scene. It's a classic
point break with several surf spots. These surf areas are locally known
as Sewer Peak (where an old sewer outfall used to be), First Peak, O'Neill's
(by Jack O'Neill's house), The Hook, and several others all the way down
to Capitola.
Directions:
- In Capitola
from Hwy. 1 take the 41st Street exit towards the ocean.
- Follow
41st Street all the way down until it deadends into a parking lot on
the bluff above the ocean.
