Cold and dark, the deep sea is the largest, but least understood region on earth. Several, large submarine canyons carve into the sanctuary's seafloor, creating deep-water habitats close to shore. Using submersibles or remotely operated vehicles, scientists take advantage of the canyons' proximity to study deep sea animals, like this rockfish. |
